Here are this week's musings, some of which I may use to work into future articles. I have 10 +/- a few pieces of varying degrees of readiness that I am working on simultaneously. No shortage of ideas here, just a shortage of time and good writing habits. Enjoy!
A Spiritual Fallacy
"We are not humans having a spiritual experience, we are spiritual beings having a human experience." When I first encountered this quote early in my spiritual journey, I was like, "YAS! I AM a spiritual being! Now let me get away from all this human BS." Years later, I understand the fallacy that our spirituality is independent of our humanity, when it fact that messy human BS is exactly what we need to confront to access our spiritual selves. Are our spirituality and our humanity not one and the same?
I think it should be reworked to say, "We are not merely human beings having a spiritual experience, we are also spiritual beings having a human experience." This reflects a spiritual paradigm that is true for me.
Big Ass Babies
Chinese families are obsessed about making big ass babies, which apparently is a medical condition (the baby, not the obsession). Fetal Macrosomia, or what I've been calling "Big Ass Baby Syndrome", describes a newborn that weighs more than 8lbs, 13oz (4,000g), regardless of gestational age. It happens because when there is higher maternal blood glucose concentration, the fetus will produce more insulin. When there is more insulin, the fetus will grow large deposits of fat in response.
I suspect the conditioning came from generations of food uncertainty, but now with relative food abundance and the risks to the mother-baby pair, maybe it's time to rethink these out-dated beliefs around pregnancy and birth.
Meeting Tiago Forte
I met Tiago Forte at a Building a Second Brain meet-up this week! We geeked out about Sci-Fi, human evolution, and higher dimensions. We also talked about how Gen Z’ers don't understand the concept of a file system and that he may have to rework his whole PARA system for organizing digital information as a result. I thanked him for shifting my paradigm around information consumption to give me back my mental health and finally start writing online.
I think he's my age, but I still consider him a role model since he is expanding what I see is possible for myself. The conversation ended with him saying to me, "I can tell you're going to do great things." Aww shucks, thanks Tiago!
"We are not merely human beings having a spiritual experience, we are also spiritual beings having a human experience." - Maymie Chan, that's going on my next week's newsletter! Can't wait to see the 10 articles emerge from the pipeline 👍
"YAS! I AM a spiritual being! Now let me get away from all this human BS" This made me crack up!! How did you know about my internal monologue? :P
